In his second and final appearance on AZLI, Kashmiri poet Madhosh Balhami builds upon his explorations of loss and in particular how the conflict has desensitized people from acts of violence and driven them towards making choices that further isolates them from the word of God, thereby leading to the destruction of the community and the land they belong to.

LYRIC BREAKDOWN
One betrayed me after calling me it’s own.
Another called me life before taking it away.
Both of them are happy now,
my city burnt down.
There’s a greivious wall of terror
Hardened by the bodies under
my city burnt down.
Tis the reality of glass houses.
Vibrant are the graves of the vicious,
my city burnt down.
It is known by the knowns and the unknowns,
my city burnt down.
To Spring & to Autumn I wish a long life.
Either out of cowardice or my naivety
my city burnt down.
Ones I keep awaiting, keep falling out of love.
I die at their hands but
my city burns down.
An ember escaped the fire,
my city burnt down.
